Northern Mauritania, from the Adrar to the Saharan border

Reguibat Shield

The Archean and Proterozoic basement of northern Mauritania

Geological setting

  • Vast crystalline ridge with Archean basement to the west and Proterozoic terrains to the east.
  • Granites, granodiorites, gneisses and greenstone belts cut by mafic dykes.
  • A long tectonic history providing structural traps favourable to metal concentration.
  • Thin sedimentary cover, leaving outcrops widely accessible to mapping.

Target mineralisation

  • Uranium (U3O8), notably as carnotite in near-surface settings
  • Gold, in greenstone belts and shear zones
  • Copper and base metals associated with intrusions
  • Iron ore, the historical backbone of Mauritanian mining

Our activity

MENAJEM runs radiometric surveys, lithostructural mapping and trenching campaigns here to convert regional geophysical anomalies into documented drill targets.

Planning an exploration project in Mauritania?

Our geological teams support investors, operators and institutions, from the first radiometric anomaly to the final exploration report.
